Jankovic defeated in Beijing opener, Ivanovic moves on

BEIJING - Serbia's tennis player Jelena Jankovic did not make it to the second round of the WTA tournament in Beijing as she was bested by Alize Cornet of France 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 on Monday.

This was the first win of the French player in their head-to-heads (1-3).

Earlier on Monday, Serbia's Ana Ivanovic breezed past Belinda Bencic of Switzerland 6-2, 6-1 in only 72 minutes.

Jankovic retires in Wuhan round 2

WUHAN - Serbia's No. 2 Jelena Jankovic was forced to retire in her second round match at the WTA tournament in Wuhan against Coco Vandeweghe (USA) on Tuesday, while trailing 4-1.

Jankovic is the second Serbian player to retire in Wuhan, after Ana Ivanovic pulled out due to fatigue in the first round on Monday.

Tennis-Jankovic defeats fellow Serb Jovanovski

NEW YORK – Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic launched her bid at the US Open efficiently, defeating compatriot Bojana Jovanovski in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 early Tuesday morning CET.

The world number ten Serb has justified the role of favorite, coming easily to a victory that showed her driving ambition at the last grand slam of the season.

Ana Ivanovic 9th, Jelena Jankovic 10th in WTA rankings

LONDON - Ana Ivanovic's good play in Cincinnati, which saw her through to the final, made Serbia once again the only country with two female tennis players among the top 10 in the world.

The success in Cincinnati also made Ivanovic Serbia's best ranked player, since she is now 9th in the WTA rankings, pushing back her compatriot Jelena Jankovic to 10th spot.
