Bulgarian Beekeepers to Stage Protest against Proposed Restrictions on Beehives
Bulgarian beekeepers will stage a protest in front of the Parliament building in Sofia at 1 p.m. on Wednesday over a set of proposed amendments to the Beekeeping Act.
The changes were backed by MPs from center-right party Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) and nationalist party the Patriotic Front, according to reports of Darik radio.

Catarina Rydin and Kristina Bolinder from the Department of Ecology, Environment and Plant Sciences at Stockholm University accidentally discovered that pollination in the gymnosperm Ephedra foeminea is linked with the full moon. They made this discovery after a fruitless study of the plants of Greece and Croatia. It hit them that the plants may have been waiting for moonlight to bloom.

Honey exports drop by over 50 percent
KRAGUJEVAC - Serbian beekeepers exported 1,500 tons of honey last year, which is over 50 percent less than in 2013, when honey exports totalled 3,370 tons, the deputy president of the Association of Serbian Beekeepers, Milutin Petrovic, has told Tanjug.

Bulgarian Beekeepers Warn of Increase in Honey Prices over Poor Harvest
The heavy rain in the past few months will push honey prices up against the backdrop of a small harvest, according to Bulgarian industry representatives.
Honey retailers from the Smolyan district, as cited by the Bulgarian National Radio, noted that they expected a price increase by BGN 2, with a jar of honey reaching a price tag of BGN 12-13.
Bulgarian Beekeepers Expect Honey Output Decrease due to Bad Weather
The bad weather and flooding is expected to cause a decline in honey production, according to Valentin Atanasov from the National Association "Bulgarian Beekeepers' Union."
Atanasov, as cited by the Bulgarian National Radio, made clear that honey output in 2013 had amounted to over 14 000 tonnes and some 60-70% of it had been exported, mainly to Germany, Greece and Poland.
