Police officer killed in Thessaloniki bar stabbing

An officer with the Hellenic Police (ELAS) was killed in the early hours of Thursday in an altercation at a bar in the northern port city of Thessaloniki.

According to state broadcaster ERT, the unnamed police officer, aged 32, died after being stabbed with a knife for reprimanding another customer over his rowdy behavior. 

Ministers offers condolences as details emerge in police officer’s death

Citizen Protection Minister Ioannis Oikonomou has extended his condolences to the family and the Greek Police (ELAS) following the death of a 19-year-old police officer, a member of the DIAS motorcycle unit, who was fatally injured during a pursuit in the early hours of Monday.

Dozens arrested over anniversary street riots

The Hellenic Police (ELAS) announced on Thursday that 193 people were detained, of whom 30 were arrested, in connection with street riots that erupted in Athens and Thessaloniki on Wednesday night after marches and rallies commemorating the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Alexis Grigoropoulos in 2008 by a police special guard. 

Drones, snipers and 3,500 officers in preparation for Erdogan’s visit to Greece

Approximately 3,500 police officers are expected to be on foot for the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Athens on Thursday. Traffic regulations will be in place from the early morning. 

The Turkish president will be in Athens to participate in the Greece-Turkey Supreme Cooperation Council.
